Government Removes Restrictions on Diesel & Petrol Sales at PSU OMC Retail Outlets from July 1
The Government of India has withdrawn the temporary restrictions on the retail sale of petrol and diesel to commercial, industrial and institutional consumers at public sector oil marketing company (PSU OMC) fuel stations, effective July 1, 2026. The decision restores normal fuel sales after supply concerns arising from geopolitical tensions in the Middle East eased.
The restrictions, introduced earlier in June, were aimed at preventing fuel hoarding, black marketing and diversion of subsidized retail fuel to bulk consumers. During the restriction period, commercial buyers were required to procure fuel only through designated bulk consumer pumps, while diesel purchases at retail outlets were capped.
With global crude oil prices moderating and fuel supply chains stabilizing, the Centre has now lifted these emergency measures. The move is expected to normalize fuel procurement for industries, infrastructure companies, transport operators and other commercial users, while reducing operational disruptions at retail fuel stations.

The rollback signals the government’s confidence in India’s fuel supply security and easing international market volatility. Commercial fuel consumers can now resume purchasing petrol and diesel directly from PSU retail outlets without the earlier restrictions, improving procurement flexibility and supporting industrial operations.
