Pankaj Jain, the Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said petrol and diesel prices might drop if global crude oil prices stay low for a longer time. Oil companies may think about lowering the rates if the crude oil remains cheap.

Jain also mentioned talks with the finance ministry about reviewing the windfall tax on locally produced crude oil and petroleum exports. India, which imports most of its oil, mainly from Russia, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, is the world’s third-largest oil importer. India hopes for more oil output from OPEC, its allies, and Russia due to rising demand.
In Delhi, petrol costs Rs. 94.72 per liter, while diesel is Rs. 87.62 per liter. In Chennai, petrol is sold at Rs. 100.75 per liter, and diesel is available at Rs. 92.34 per liter. In Kolkata, petrol costs Rs. 104.95 per liter, with diesel at Rs. 91.76 per liter. In Mumbai, the rates are Rs. 103.44 per liter for petrol and Rs. 89.97 per liter for diesel.
