crude oil price trends: Brent oil futures for August delivery rose 87 cents or 1.296 pct to $68.01 a barrel on London based ICE Futures Europe exchange while WTI oil August futures prices sagged up 89 cents or 1.38 pct to $65.27 a barrel on NYMEX on Wednesday Morning during Asian hours. Both the benchmarks closed down last night.
Fundamental Analysis: Oil finding some respite after plummeting in the last two sessions as investors started assessing the stability of ceasefire between Iran and Iraq. Both the benchmarks prices spiked to five months high last week after U.S atttacks on Iran Nuclear facilities. U.S joining war fanned worries across the crude markets over possibilities of cloure of ‘Straight Of Hormuz’ by Iran. ‘Striaght Of Hormuz’ is the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman, through which between 18 million and 19 Mbpd of crude oil and fuel flow i.e nearly a fifth of global consumption. Turning to weekly data, API predicted a fall in U.S crude duirng the week ending June 20th. U.S government department, EIA will confirm the numbers later today. Consensus is on drawings.
Technical Analysis: Benchmark indices continue to demonstrate bearish momentum. WTI RSI indicated weak momentum while EMA lines signalling short term downside pressure. MACD suggesting a mild bearish trend. Brent indicators signalling positive sentiment. RSI momentum is strengthening but not yet overbought. EMA and MACD indicators signalling building bullish momentum for Brent. At the outset, Brent is moving strong while WTI is shows some uncertainityin the short term.
