Petroleum Coke (Pet Coke)

According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the petroleum refining industry converts crude oil into more than 2500 refined products, including liquefied petroleum gas, gasoline, kerosene, aviation fuel, diesel fuel, fuel oils, lubricating oils and feed stocks for the Petrochemical industry.

PETROLEUM COKE (PET COKE):

Petroleum coke (Pet coke) is one of the many valued consumer products produced during the Oil refining Process. Crude Oil is processed into  gasoline, jet fuel, Lubricating oils and waxes, leaving some residual crude that usually undergoes additional processing called coking. Coking is the use heat to crack or break down large hydrocarbon molecules to produce "Fuel grade" Petroleum coke (pet coke). 

Petroleum coke(Pet coke) is highly stable solid fuel and is not considered hazardous. It has potential to adversely affect human health. The first modern coker  in the U.S was installed in 1930s. Currently, Petroleum coke (pet coke) is produced at more than 140 refineries around the world and it can be transported by ocean freight, barges, rail and truck.

PETROLEUM COKE - COAL:

Petroleum coke is used as a substitute for coal. since petcoke has a higher heat content than coal, low quantity of petcoke is required to generate the heat necessary to maintain the industrial process. Petroleum coke(pet coke) is over 90 percent carbon and emits 5 to 10 percent more carbon dioxide(CO2) than coal on a per-unit-of-energy basis when it burned. It can be used as a substitute for coal in power plants and Cement Kilns. 

END USE:

Calcination Grade RPC is used for production of Anodes for the Aluminium Industry. Fuel grade pet coke is used primarily by Cement Plants. .it is a Carbon source for Industries like Fertilisers.
